Do you want Japan to grow stronger? Do you want to end the discrimination?This is for ALL people, regardless of their class and backgrounds!Nowadays, the Western world is technologically and militarily more advanced than Japan.Also, Western powers are colonizing many countries all around the world, including Asia.To protect us and fight against those powers, we need strong military and better strategies.I will ensure that our industry, education, and economy will develop favorably.By a successful modernization, we will grow even stronger than Western powers in the future.
Overview of Okubo Toshimichi's Ideas: Modernization = Development of the whole country.
First, we must modernize our government by replacing the old customs with new policies.
Second, we must develop the industry by building roads, bridges, and ports.
Third, we must end the official discrimination between people by Land Tax Reform that bans samurais from wearing swords in public.
Fourth, we must work on secure revision of the unequal treaties for better international relationships.
Last, we must reinforce our military by adapting developed technologies and new strategies.
Unfortunately, we are behind the Western world right now because of Tokugawa's isolationist policies. However, we have great potential to grow as strong as the Western powers and I will help to develop that hidden potential. To achieve this goal, we must develop our most precious resource which is YOU, "the people of Japan".
You and I can change the whole country. Japan can definitely stand as a new global power.
